The Cobb County Board of Education has unanimously approved the district’s budget for the 2024-25 school year, which includes significant raises for all employees. At Thursday night’s meeting, the board passed the $1.85 billion budget, marking a $400 million increase from the previous year, mainly due to expiring Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) and grant funding.

Superintendent Chris Ragsdale highlighted that all staff will receive raises ranging from 4.4% to 9%, with an average increase of 6%. The budget also allocates $2.7 million to create 20 new positions and $2 million for an experimental virtual reality math and science program. Cobb school board member Becky Sayler expressed enthusiasm about the budget, emphasizing its focus on employee benefits and the continued support for programs previously funded by external sources. Community members at the public forum praised the balanced budget, noting it avoids staff cuts and includes exciting new initiatives.
